A beloved Cambridge Street has nabbed a runners-up award, despite failing to take home the top prize at the Best British High Street Awards.
Cambridge's Mill Road, a favourite city spot, famed for its independent shops, quirky restaurants and international atmosphere, has lost out on the title of Best British High Street of the Year at an awards ceremony run by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
It was announced yesterday Mill Road had narrowly missed out to Northampton's St Giles Street, which scooped first prize.
Mill Road coordinator, Franny Ritchie, was disappointed with the result, but said they would be "back with a vengeance" next year with an improved bid.
